Metso är en leverantör av teknologier som främjar hållbar utveckling samt heltäckande lösningar och tjänster för hantering av ballast, mineralbearbetning och metallförädling över hela världen. Bolaget effektiviserar sina kunders energi- och vattenanvändning, ökar deras produktivitet och minskar miljörisker med hjälp av sitt produkt- och processkunnande. Metso grundades genom sammanslagningen av Metso Minerals och Outotec i juli 2020, och dess huvudkontor ligger i Helsingfors.

Metso, maskinbolaget, har gått starkt under början av året. Trots att order minskade med 3%, steg omsättningen med hela 18%, upp till 2,9 miljarder euro. Rörelsevinsten ökade från 127 miljoner euro till 426 miljoner, och Metso nådde sin högsta lönsamhetsnivå hittills tack vare förbättringar inom Minerals-segmentet samt starka resultat från Crushing and Screening- och Metals-segmenten. Företaget utvidgar sina lösningar för behandling av ackumetaller och investerar globalt. Förra juli planerade Metso och det kanadensiska Avalon att bygga en litiumproduktionsanläggning i Ontario, Kanada. Även om krossmarknaderna var svaga i Europa, fokuserar Metso på hållbara lösningar. Försäljningen av Planet Positive-produkter ökade med 43% under det senaste året och nådde nästan 1,5 miljarder euro. Metso strävar efter att stärka sin försäljningsmix genom att göra sig av med vissa Metals-verksamheter. Analytiker tror att Metso’s satsningar på forskning och utveckling, ökad tjänsteintensitet och tillväxten inom Planet Positive kommer att förbättra företagets lönsamhet.

Metso Outotec är numera Metso, bör rubriken ändras?  Metso har en stark efterfrågesituation för både tjänster och utrustning, och inflation verkar inte vara ett problem då Metso har kunnat justera sina priser lämpligt. Säkerligen kommer det också att finnas marginal och vinst när det finns stram kostnadskontroll på plats. Hur långt kan Metso’s framtid förutsägas? Är siktet mycket kort?

Helsingin Sanomat wrote about Berenberg’s small cap fund, which is according to Bloomberg “one of Europe’s top stock pickers”. It’s worth noting that the fund has also invested in Metso Outotec. Why? According to Berenberg analyst Peter Kraus the future of Metso Outotec is brightened by the future of the mining industry which has strong growth drivers in the background, electrification, and the energy transition. Ore is required for electrification. The article made also an interesting point that - according to Metso Outotec’s current vice president Markku Teräsvasara - most of the copper produced in the world has at some point been in contact with Metso Outotec’s equipment or know-how.
