Fortum is active in the energy sector. In addition to the provision of electricity, a number of technical solutions are offered in heat optimization as well as apps that are used to keep track of energy consumption. The company also provides charging stations for electric cars. The largest activity is found around the Nordic market. The company was founded in 1998 and is headquartered in Espoo.

Fortum har tecknat ett avtal med Enersense om att förvärva en utvecklingsportfölj för landbaserad vindkraft på 2,6 GW i Finland till ett skuldfritt pris på cirka 9 miljoner euro. Projektet stöder Fortums mål att öka sin kapacitet för förnybar energi, men endast en liten del av projekten förväntas nå byggfasen. Affären förväntas slutföras under första kvartalet 2025, och investeringsbeslut kan komma att fattas mot slutet av detta årtionde. Investerarnas intresse för Fortum förblir starkt, särskilt tack vare bolagets utdelningsutsikter. Prognoserna för 2024 pekar på en utdelning på 1,40 euro per aktie, vilket med nuvarande aktiekurs skulle innebära en attraktiv direktavkastning på 10,4 %. Samtidigt granskar Fortum fortsatt sina kvarvarande verksamheter inom cirkulär ekonomi, som batteriåtervinning och energiåtervinning från avfall i Storbritannien. Även om dessa inte är strategiskt kärnområden, övervägs deras framtid noggrant. Energisektorns osäkra marknadsutsikter, prisfluktuationer och den kommande vintern skapar spänningar i branschen, men Fortum håller stadigt fast vid sina långsiktiga mål.
