Skanska builds the bridge Karlgårdsbron in Skellefteå, Sweden, for about SEK 380M

Skanska

Skanska has signed a contract with Skellefteå Municipality to build the bridge Karlgårdsbron over the Skellefte River in Skellefteå, Sweden. The contract is worth about SEK 380M, which will be included in the order bookings for Skanska Sweden in the second quarter of 2025.

The existing agreement between the parties for the planning and calculation phase is now supplemented with a contract for the production phase that includes bridge installation as well as superstructure, bridge additions, paving, and lighting. In addition, at each abutment, earthworks will be carried out for new pedestrian and cycle paths, water and sewage systems, grass areas, and lighting.

Karlgårdsbron will be a suspension bridge approximately 400 meters long with wooden trusses, cross beams and hangers made of steel, and the bridge deck consists of a cross-tensioned wooden slab divided into a total of 10 spans. The bridge will become Sweden's longest wooden bridge. The bridge over the Skellefte River will be an important link connecting the city's various districts. The new bridge will accommodate car, bus, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic.

Construction will start immediately and the project is expected to be completed in November 2027.
